C.S. Lewis quotes that I like

"The Christian is in a different position from other people who are trying to be good. They hope, by being good, to please God if there is one; or — if they think there is not — at least they hope to deserve approval from good men. But the Christian thinks any good he does comes from the Christ-life inside him. He does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us; just as the roof of a greenhouse does not attract the sun because it is bright, but becomes bright because the sun shines on it."

"I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else."

"Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained."

"I didn’t go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of Port would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don’t recommend Christianity."

"What draws people to be friends is that they see the same truth. They share it."

"It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."

"My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust?"

"It was when I was happiest that I longed most...The sweetest thing in all my life has been the longing...to find the place where all the beauty came from."

  1. oh... I just wrote those quotes and the "reminder" you posted yesterday on colorful post its and hung them everywhere around our house... I think I'll do this now with every good quote I'll read... :D
    those quotes are just perfect...
I also like "Can a mortal ask questions which God finds unanswerable? Quite easily, I should think. All nonsense questions are unanswerable."
C.S. Lewis can just play with words so easily... it's wonderful...

  3. I love C.S Lewis because on the last page of The Chronicles of Narnia , he said that: "For us this is the end of all stories... But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world had only been the cover and the title page; now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read, which goes forever and in which every chapter is better than the one before."
it means that if we die here on earth, it's not yet the end of us because we are going to have an eternal life in heaven with God. :D

I think you are a Christian because you want to feel comfortable. Because you're promised eternal life if you give up yourself entirely to God. I think you have been brainwashed and you should think outside the box and don't be afraid of reality instead of hiding behind God every time you do something wrong.
